Transport Restoration

Decorative fabric and transport restoration upholstery is a natural follow on from our historic building restoration work; renewing the interiors of carriages, train coaches, classic cars and heritage buses.

Humphries Weaving have supplied a wide range of transport restoration upholstery, curtains and trims for both heritage carriages and more modern classic vehicles. We are experienced at making suggestions of appropriate design where there is little evidence of the original textile or can recreate original fabrics that are no longer in production. This service includes fabric analysis, colour development and redrawing or piecing together designs in order to create new samples for consideration.

As well as providing fine silk interiors for Royal carriages, such as teh image above for the Gold State Coach (on display at the Royal Mews) we have worked worldwide producing transport restoration upholstery for other classic and vintage cars, buses and train carriages. We often work with transport museums, historic house conservators, collectors, enthusiasts and car clubs to recreate short runs of specialist cloths. These fabrics often provide the finishing touches to unique restorations. It is enjoyable to work with individuals as these projects are often very personal and sometimes years in the planning.

All of our fabric is designed and woven in England and it is a great opportunity to explore a wider variety of fibres such as our heavier cotton chenille to create a mock moquette fabric for a minimum order of just 15 metres per design and colourway. We have even introduced independent enquiries who have joined up to make purchases.
