70 x 7 The Meal XXXIII

Art installation ’70 x 7 The Meal XXXIII’ Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk (and then travelling) by Lucy Orta artist.

Lucy Orta required a custom weave to portray her artwork of a sky-scape featuring an array of cloud images. Her design was for a table setting which would feature the fabric as a table cloth. The length- way edges of the cloth had poetry lines and images of insects creating a border.  The use of metallic and silver threads against the contrasting sky blue background created an exciting visual contribution to the piece. The blue shade was chosen specifically to co-ordinate with the space housing the installation, as well as the other art pieces made for the project.  The photographic aesthetic is created not only through colour but with an array of weave structures to create dimensionality.

70 x 7 The Meal XXXIX

Art installation ’70 x 7 The Meal XXXIX’ Peterborough Harvest by Lucy Orta artist.

Studio Orta created a large scale table setting for 500 guests who filled the Cathedral Square to welcome in the harvest moon, and take part in a revival of Peterborough’s 8000 year-old agricultural heritage.

Humphries Weaving created a silk Jacquard table runner woven with gold thread for the offereing table which displayed hundreds of loaves of bread and giant bread boards carved by residents of HMP (Peterborough) aswell as impressive harvest flower displays. Taken from their website; “Lucy + Jorge also designed a bespoke dinner service of  commemorative limited edition of Royal Limoges porcelain plates… The Harvest menu was prepared by renowned chef Lee Clarke of Clarkes restaurant, and sourced by Peterborough farmers, city allotments and community growing projects. Together with award-winning milliner Eloise Moody, five hundred loaves of bread were baked with provocative messages inside, to stimulate conversations between diners.

Commissioned by Metal, the UK based arts organisation founded by Jude Kelly CBE, this is the artists largest UK meal, in a town, which is deemed to be both the breadbasket of England but also in the UK’s bottom 20% for public engagement in the arts. 70 x 7 The Meal concludes with new a monograph byBlack Dog Publishing and a solo exhibition at Peterborough City Gallery, in September 2016.”

The photographic aesthetic is created not only through colour but with an array of weave structures to create dimensionality.
