Gilt Sofa Restoration

Humphries Weaving supplied traditional 21 inch wide pure silk damask used for the restoration of the Gilt Sofa, now on display at the The National Museum of Scotland. The Vardy sofa was originally designed and made for the 1st Earl Spencer for the Palm Room at Spencer House, London.

The decision was made to not select the Sage Green colour so synonymous with the Palm Room but to opt for deeper green of the period which can be found in the Norfolk House Music Room at the Victoria and Albert Museum, London. The design is a popular Italian design from the 18th Century.
