2018 marks 300 years since the birth of Thomas Chippendale, he became a cabinet-maker in London, designing furniture in the mid-Georgian, English Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. Humphries Weaving were commissioned to weave a deep green, pure silk damask (woven wide width) for the Green Drawing Room fabric restoration which used the ‘George and Mary Damask’ design. The fabric can be seen in wall panels and on the furniture suite, it was also used in the restoration of the window drapes. Twenty-six years on the damask still provides a warmth and richness to this much used and photographed room.
