“Humphries Weaving is uniquely placed to design and weave the finest ceremonial fabric”
Our name has become synonymous with quality, accuracy and attention to detail, and we support our clients with research and consultancy should the project require. When designing ceremonial fabric, we bring artistic and historical references together to provide design and weave construction recommendations. Many of the projects we undertake are unique, whether that be creating royal silk for the Order of the Chivalry robes, university chancellors gowns, the Judiciary or Ministry of Defence ceremonial regalia or bespoke ecclesiastical designs.
The beautiful drape of our fabric is created through our understanding of construction and the fibres used. The handle can be adapted for the desired end use through the subtle introduction of steam and heat in the finishing process.
The ceremonial fabrics woven by Humphries Weaving range from highly decorated multi coloured tissues, as seen in the rich silk and linen brocatelle Cope of the Worshipful company of Weavers Chaplain, to tonal damasks and luxurious plain silks for through embroidery, undertaken by the Royal School of Needlework and similar.
Our team works tirelessly to ensure that we create only the best, British woven products that are suitable for and respectful of the ceremony and its particular requirements. As well as cloth suitable for garments, we also provide fabric for ceremonial flags and banner silk, and you can read about the ‘Trooping of the Colour’ here, with specific projects listed below.
