Waddesdon Manor, Aylesbury
Waddesdon Manor is come under the umbrella of the National Trust and is one of its most visited properties with nearly half a million visitors annually. It is also managed by the Rothschild Foundation, which is chaired by Jacob Rothschild, 4th Baron.
The Grade I listed house was built in the Neo-Renaissance style of a French Chateau for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild between 1874-1889. It was commissioned as a weekend residence for grand entertaining and as a setting for his great collections.
Waddesdon Manor West Hall
Silk and Linen Brocatelle for walling
Waddesdon Manor West Hall is located on the ground floor and joins the West Gallery to the Morning Room. The room displays paitings from the collection, including work by Guardi.
The restoration was to replace the 1960’s fabric walling with a reweave of the original 19th Century silk fabric, based on the surviving curtain and sofa both of which were to remain in the scheme.
The design was very similar to one existing in our archive but to achive an exact match the Waddesdon design was redrawn in situ from the original curtain. The colour match was also extremaly sensitive to compliment both the picture gilding and the exisitng fabric within the room.
The project was guided by David Mlinaric with input from the House and National Trust curation and management team including Pippa Shirley and Jane Finch. The fabric was skillfully hung by R&M Curtains in April 2018.
