We explore the recent concept from JW ANDERSON made with Humphries Weaving Silk, written by Natalie Mumford.
A design-led lifestyle can be described as a conscious curation of one’s surroundings; the artistic or design principles by which one chooses to live, consume and spend one’s energy and free time. It is the melting pot of culture, heritage, lifestyle and artistic endeavour. Pictured: Silk Damask for JW ANDERSON Ready to Wear collection 2026
JW Anderson was the perfect team to have a design-led conversation with, when we welcomed them to the mill. Jonathan Anderson, and his eponymous brand JW ANDERSON, have long been champions of heritage and provenance using fabrics with a synonymous connection to place; Irish linen, Scottish tweed, Japanese denim to name a few and now extending to Sudbury Silk. Each maker has refined their craft over generations and are often moulded by their vernacular, and opportunities afforded by location, landscape and, most importantly, the community of makers.

Where JW ANDERSON lives by this belief is by generously crediting their makers, so often kept a secret in our industry or part of a little black book. This transparency raises the awareness and celebration of the unique eco-system of designers, makers, crafts and artists that make Made in Britain and the British textile industry both desirable and at the forefront of quality. It is action that starts to widen the conversation around cost (to consumer, to community and to our environment) to that of value, respect and appreciation of time and skill. Our social responsibility ethos is about maintaining meaningful work in Sudbury; inspiring the next generation into our industry and combining heritage skills with innovative thinking, and we love the opportunity to work with brands and individuals that share this value.
JW ANDERSON’s collection using Humphries Weaving damask silks maintains the traditional interiors scale of design, jewel tones of the 18th century and even the honesty of the upholsterers guiding sew line (that ensures accuracy of pattern matching for walling installation).
These collection staples are perfectly at home in their new London flagship concept store on the Pimlico Road. A prized position amongst the luxury interiors brands, high-end antiques and furniture makers, whose showroom spaces so often house artisan makers and touring exhibitions.
Humphries Weaving are very proud to be leaders of historic textile recreation for interiors, this identity is core to our being, but ultimately illustrates our unique skillset of understanding and respecting heritage, recreating and innovating fabrics, appreciation of colour and collaborating with other artistic disciplines to bring their textile vision to life. As any weaver will tell you, there is a unique alchemy between the creative and the technical; hand, head and machine.
In historic interior applications we can be led by period architecture, decorative detailing, archive records and academic led research, but we equally enjoy developing rare custom colour palettes and creating bespoke luxury fabric for lifestyle brands, theatre, entertainment spaces, artistic installations and events.
We invite you to get in touch to discuss collaboration and your bespoke luxury fabric idea.
