Coronation of King Charles III; Coronation Gold State Coach
Humphries Weaving are proud to have supplied crimson Duchess Satin for interior upholstery of the Coronation Gold State Coach. After the Coronation their Majesties will travel in the Gold State Coach as part of the Coronation procession from Westminster Abbey to Buckingham Palace.

In living memory, the Coach was used by The Queen at the Coronation in 1953, the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and the Golden Jubilee in 2002. Most recently the coach appeared as part of the Platinum Jubilee Pageant in 2022, fitted for the day with a hologram of Queen Elizabeth II in the coach windows.
The coach has been used at every Coronation since that of William IV in 1831. The coach will be drawn by eight Windsor Greys and, due to its weight of four tonnes, will travel at walking pace.
Equally as impressive as the gold exterior is the contrasting rich crimson upholstery inside the carriage. The interior is upholstered with velvet, deep button duchess satin and trimmed with carriage lace. Duchess satin is a heavy and stiff satin with a luxurious glossy finish, the cloth requires great skill to weave as the structure is unforgiving but the finished cloth is highly desirable.
