Project Description
Humphries Weaving collaborated with the innovative artists at Study O Portable for their exhibition contribution to Growth + Form at Gallery FUMI, London.
Growth + Form, a landmark group show curated by design historian Libby Sellers with exhibition design by Leendert de Vos, featured "Incomplete Copy" - a series of upholstered structures inspired by Sol LeWitt's Incomplete Open Cubes.
Working from Study O Portable's original artwork featuring intricate multi-coloured lines and shapes, our design team translated these graphics into a sophisticated cotton-based lampas weave. Using our specialized colour-barring technique, we seamlessly integrated over 10 distinct colours within the fabric's structure.
The bolt of bespoke fabric was woven, and used for several upholstered installation pieces. These have travelled around Europe playing a role in several key shows and exhibitions. It is a pleasure to be able to share Humphries Weaving fabrics that were used for these art pieces in modern innovative ways, contrasting the historic fabrics we are often able to share.
The work continues to garner international recognition. One of the upholstered pieces will be featured at Gallery FUMI's pop-up exhibition in Los Angeles, while another will be displayed at the Design Museum in London from late March as part of the accompanying exhibition to the Enzo Mari retrospective.
