    Georgian Group Award Winners

    The Georgian Group Architectural Awards 2019 winners announced; Georgian Distinction 

    “The Georgian Group’s 2019 Architectural Awards, sponsored by Savills, attracted an outstandingly strong entry. The following winners were chosen by a panel of judges, chaired by Country Life’s Architectural Editor, John Goodall”.

    We were thrilled that not one but two of the award winners are restorations that include Humphries Weaving fabric.

    Introducing our fine viscose yarn

    In recent years Humphries Weaving have seen a demand for fabrics that have the look and feel of silk, but with an increased abrasion performance. We have been exploring solutions that meet both requirements and have spent a long time testing different yarn compositions and weights within our popular historic and decorator qualities. We are now carrying out sampling for regular customers and seeing an increase in the popularity of using fine viscose yarn.

    Humphries Weaving Sudbury Silk Festival

    Hundreds flock to Sudbury Silk Festival

    A celebration of silk weaving in Sudbury Suffolk
    Similar numbers attended the main exhibition space at St Peters Church, where Humphries Weaving had a selection of Silks on display, with Bruce and Natalie answering questions throughout the day. Other exhibitors all the Sudbury Silk Mills; David Walters, Stephen Walters, Gainsborough and Vanners, which employ more than 300 people in the town and import more than 110 tonnes of Chinese silk thread to Sudbury each year.

    The Suffolk town of Sudbury, bordering the Essex County, has a weaving tradition dating back centuries. Humphries Weaving is a relative new comer to Sudbury starting in 1972 after the closure of Warner & Sons New Mills at Braintree, Essex.

    Sudbury Silk Festival

    A celebration of silk weaving in Sudbury Suffolk
    Discover the long tradition of silk weaving in the town that stretches back to the 1780’s. Records show that by 1844 there were four silk manufacturers and 600 silk looms and it is still a thriving industry today with four working silk mills; including Humphries Weaving.

    Supporting Sea-Change Sailing Trust

    Sea-Change Sailing Trust is a local Charity at Maldon in Essex who offer residential opportunities for young people and vulnerable adults to learn and develop in a unique environment. By living and working together aboard a traditional sailing vessel they participate in a wide range of life skills and are encouraged to take increasing responsibility for their contribution and group decisions.

Every project is special for our team at Humphries Weaving and so where possible we have included project overviews on our website. As well as details about the fabric development, design and yarn composition we have also featured images of the fabric in its final location. Among a wide variety of uses this includes curtains, walling, bed drapes and upholstery for furniture.
